Romanas Pilates Method (pronounced: puh-LAH-teez) of body conditioning was developed through the 1920's by Joseph Pilates, the legendaryphysical trainer and founder of "Contrology". The Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility, strength and control for the total body without building bulk.
The Influences of eastern disciplines such as Kung Fu led Joseph Pilates to develop exercises that not only provide a safe and effective workout, but also contain stimulation through acupressure points to every organ in the body. This develops an energy throughout the entire physical system. He combined the art of control with centering and the release of movement through aerobic, strength and flexible concentrations.
Pilates re-educates and realigns, tones and balances the body. It develops coordination, thus improving posture, eliminating stress and tension. As Pilates has become one of the fastest growing fitness activities in the country, some 9.5 million people participated in Pilates in 2003, up from 2.4 million in 2001. The quality of the instruction has been compromised.
Joseph Pilates said, "My work is 50 years ahead of its time. Joseph had many devoted followers who have continued to teach his methods and further his legacy. It was Romana Kryzanowska who after his death was asked by Clara his wife to carry on his work and from there she began the Certification Program Authentic Pilates which today is referred to as Romana's Pilates. The Master Instructor, Romana, taught in New York City and then out of her studio in Texas as well as Drago's in NYC where her daughter Sari Mejia Santo and granddaughter, Daria Pace operate the certification center of the highest level of instruction for Pilates in the Industry known as True Pilates NYC today.
For over four decades Romana's teaching of the next generation of instructors has included traveling the world to deliver on her promise to Joseph and Clara Pilates. Her daughter Sari, sharing her passion has been teaching by her side for over three decades and now daughter Daria carrying the torch.

Have fun because this is a safe class for all. Varied levels are introduced and monitored with modifications for all. There is challenge for each student at their level and safety for those who have limits. Weights, barrels, magic circles are also used to enhance your work out!
This is beginner level designed with a youthful body in mind. The basic through intermediate exercises are explained and demonstrated. Careful observation is given to insure correct alignment and execution of the exercises. Transitions are learned to connect the exercises in order to begin to establish a flow through all movements. Ideal for athletes, dancers and skaters.
